SANGO’S STORY
FROM LIGHTNING TO YOUR LIPS
Sango is an African take on tequila that pays homage to Mexican agave mythology.
The name Sango stems from the revered deity, Shango, the African god of thunder and lightning.
In Mexican agave mythology, the agave plant was cooked by a lightning bolt striking from a thunderous sky, the magical spirit that resulted from the agave being split open and releasing its juices was considered an elixir of the gods.
In a time when the earth was young and the spirits of nature roamed freely, a great storm swept across the African savanna.
The sky darkened, and thunder roared like a mighty lion. The people watched as lightning bolts danced across the heavens.
In the midst of this tempest, Sango, the orisha of thunder and lightning, struck a tall agave plant, setting it ablaze with his divine power.
As the fire raged, the heart of the agave melted, releasing a sweet, enticing aroma. The villagers gathered, curious and cautious. An elder tasted the golden nectar and felt wonder and delight, for it was a divine gift from Sango himself.
They believed this was a blessing from Sango. They learned to ferment the nectar, creating a sacred spirit that became a part of their culture and traditions.
From that day forward, they honored the agave plant and the power of Sango. They shared the spirit, told stories, and celebrated life.
And so, the legend of the agave spirit was born in the heart of Africa, a tale of fire, earth, and nature's blessings.
